Andalusian Heritage Tour

Discover Morocco and admire the splendours of the Islamic refined arts in the North of Morocco. When the Andalous Muslims and Jews were expelled from Spain in the 15th century, many of them emigrated to the Northern cities of Morocco where they brought their refined culture and arts.
During this tour, you will visit some of the most beautiful Andalous style monuments. An exciting and refreshing cities with strong cultural influences from both East and West. Striking modern designs contrast with neo-classical architecture, making this a fascinating city to explore. Take a leisurely stroll along the waterside esplanade from where the city's many beautiful offshore islands is just a short boat ride away.

ITINERARY

Day 1 :  ALGECIRAS – TANGIER

Arrive at Algeciras port. With all on board you embark on the ferry and cross the straits of Gibraltar to Tangier, a journey of about two and a half hours. On arrival in Tangier, you will go through customs to then be met by your driver and the guide who takes you to start the day’s visit to The "Bride of the North" Tangier.
The highlights start by visiting the modern new town and the wealthy "California" section where you will see the estates and palaces of the rich and famous. Stop at Cap Spartel, the lighthouse that marks the official convergence of the Atlantic and Mediterranean. Travel on to Hercules Cave – continually inhabited since the Neolithic period. Optional lunch followed by touring of the old town. Visit the kasbah (fortified area). Descend through the labyrinthine roads of the medina through the spice markets, the Berber markets and amongst the craftsmen. Visit the Grand Socco and Andrew’s Church, quietly nestled off the busy market square.

Day 2 :  TANGIER – TETOUAN – CHEFCHAOUENE

Depart from Tangier to the "White Bird" located in the Rif Mountains. Tetouan is a unique combination of Arab and Andalusian cultures. Visit the new town where you will see the Hassan II Square, governor’s palace, Spanish garden, the first North African mosque and the walls of the Kasbah. Enter the medina through Bab el Okla and continue on for a walking tour of the old town. This tour will include the Jewish section, the Andalusian section, the Berber market, the ladies market and Guersa el Kbira.
Leave the old town and then continue to Chefchaouen, a delightful town in the Rif Mountains and one of the most beautiful towns in Morocco. Chefchaouen is a typical Berber village. A tour of this blue and white village includes the Palace El Makhzen and the famous square Uta el Hamman, the city’s great Mosque, built in the 15th century and the medina. Then continue to Fez.

Day 3 :  CHEFCHAOUENE – VOLUBILIS – MOULAY IDRISS – FEZ

We depart for Fez via Moulay Idriss town, the holiest city in Morocco in the creation of the country's first Arab dynasty and where the founder of Islam in Morocco is buried, then we visit Volubilis the settlement of the great Roman empire, Morocco's largest and best preserved Roman ruins, and then we continue to Fez

Day 4 :  FEZ

Breakfast, full-day tour of the city of Fez, the jewel of Spanish-Arabic civilization. The first imperial city of Morocco, it's a leading intellectual, religious, cultural center and the kingdom's spiritual capital founded in 790 B.C by Moulay Idriss II. The highlights will include the Medersas (an Islamic teaching university) to attest the importance of its thousand years of history, the great El Qaraouiyin Mosque the first university in the world and the sumptuous Nejjarine fountain. Independent lunch followed by a visit to the Medieval Medina of Fez has a world of its own a UNESCO world heritage, encircled by an unbroken line of ramparts and gates a labyrinth of sloping, winding alleyways are crammed full of artisans and merchants, each district has its own specialty; cobalt blue enameled pottery, carpets, wrought iron, and then Boujeloud gate with its decoration of green and blue faiences.

Day 5 :   FEZ – IFRAN – BENI MELLAL – MARRAKECH

Breakfast. Departure for Marrakech, the beautiful drive will take you up through the Berber villages and towns of Imouzzer du Kandar a small town situated 625m above sea-level, and Ifran, a delightful ski resort well known for its wood carving in the heart of the Middle Atlas Mountains, then Azrou, a relaxed Berber town, enjoying superb scenery and interesting road stops all the way. Reach Beni Mellal city through the mountain regions, a modern town surrounded by orange and olive groves and have an optional lunch stop in city. Then continue your journey to magnificent Marrakech, the pearl of the South.

Day 6 :   MARRAKECH

Our day long tour will be devoted to the sightseeing of Marrakech, the second oldest imperial city known as the "Pearl of the South" to discover the fascinating history and rich cultural heritage of this ancient city, you will visit the Saadian tombs, the Koutoubia Mosque the tallest building in the city, the Bahia Palace and the Menara Garden. You will explore the souks and the world's famous Djemaa El Fna place which offers various entertainments (story tellers, acrobats, snake-charmers, magicians, musicians and henna artists, etc.
Optional: a Fantasia dinner will be provided under caidal tents at the famed "Chez Ali" restaurant. Enjoy the fantasia spectacle that includes horse shows, folkloric troops from different Moroccan regions and belly dancer.

Day 7 :   MARRAKECH

At leisure enjoy the day on your own

Optional excursion to nearby Ourika valley Southwards of Marrakech , to experience the authentic traditional Berber life

Or a day trip to the coastal city Essaouira; one of the most picturesque city in Southern Morocco.
